A heart attack takes place when your blood vessel supplying the heart get obstructed prompting a deficiency of oxygen to pass to your heart. However, a heart attack is one of the most critical medical emergencies and needs immediate treatment to unblock the artery.

Though a heart attack can prompt a cardiac arrest, but it isn’t the same. A cardiac arrest takes place when your heart unexpectedly stops beating & thus blood stop circulating throughout your body.

It’s essential for first aiders or emergency responders to be able to identify the signs & symptoms of a heart attack, so that they can call for assistance immediately.

How Do You Perform CPR on Adults? Take CPR Training online to become a pro!

Everybody must be aware of how to perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). According to the survey of American Heart Association (AHA), over 70% Americans don’t know how to perform CPR, if someone experiences a cardiac arrest. However, more than 75% cardiac emergencies occur at home where patients rely on the immediate respiratory care from their family members. Hence, taking CPR training online can help you save the life of your loved ones.

CPR training online

Here are a few steps of CPR process you should administer on an adult:

1. First of all, ask the cardiac arrest victim, “Are You Ok?” to know whether she’s or he’s conscious or unconscious. To check for consciousness, you can tap on the shoulders to stimulate the victim. If the victim is not breathing, you should start performing CPR.

2. Then, you should keep the victim laying flat on his back. Just open or remove the shirt of the victim to provide access to the chest. Kneel down next to the victim and keep the hands on the victim’s chest.

3. Your one palm should be placed on the center of the victim’s chest aligned with the victim’s nipples and the heel of other palm should be kept on the top of the first and interlock fingers.

4. Keep in mind that, your finger must be pointed towards the victim’s nipples with the axis of the hand parallel to the ribs – which will help you eliminate the chance of rib fractures.

5. You can apply compressions with the heel of the palm; but the fingers should not keep in touch with the chest during the process. However, it might be necessary to curl or extend the finger underneath to obtain the desired position.

6. As a rescuer to the victim, you should keep your elbows straight, shoulders over the hands and lean over the victim – which will create a posture in order to deliver hard and quick compression.

7. Please remember that, while administering compression to a small child, you need to use your one hand.

8. Start with 30 chest compression at a rate of at least 100 compressions per a minute. While performing compression, just let the chest recoil completely. Even, you need to press on the center part of the chest as it can be useful to count the compression loud. For adult victims, your compression must be two inches deep.

Proper Chest Compression

After the cycle of 30 compressions, you should administer two ventilation on the victim:

1. Tilt the head back and lift the jaw to open the victim’s airway. It can lift up the tongue from the back of the throat, allowing much air to flow into the lungs.

2. Just look at the mouth of the victim and remove visible obstructions, if found any.

3. Pinch the victim’s nostrils that are closed to prevent air from escaping.

4. You should take a deep breath and keep your mouth around the victim’s mouth. In fact, you need to use your lips to form a seal around the victim’s mouth to prevent air from escaping outside.

5. You need to blow air into the victim’s mouth until his/her chest rises.

6. Allowing the victim’s chest to fall – about four seconds, you should start blowing into the victim’s mouth for a second time, forming a second ventilation cycle.

7. Remember one thing that, the entire ventilation process will carry on for less than 10 seconds.

8. Otherwise, you can administer the AED as soon as it’s available. Use the AED repeatedly after five cycles of CPR.

What Will You Do If The Victim’s Chest Doesn’t Rise After Ventilation Cycle:

You need to check the position of the head to make sure that the airway is open.
Check whether there’s any foreign material inside the mouth.

You should ensure that the nostrils are closed completely and there’s presence of a tight seal around the victim’s mouth.

Please note one thing that, the more people available for rescuing victims from cardiac emergencies, the better. If you’re alone, you should call 911 for emergency medical assistance before starting CPR.
